Try and line your visit to Franschhoek or Stellenbosch up with a Friday night! 

Every Friday night in summer (weather permitting) Boschendal put on a night market. This is an outdoor vibrant food market with lots of different stalls with all sorts of food. Their wine is also obviously available and you chose between a glass or just buying a bottle. You have to purchase a steamless wine glass but you reuse it all night and only costs around R40, which makes a lovely souvenir too. 

Their deli shops are also open if you fancy a browse or a make shift picnic. 

There's also live music with lost of bean bags and picnic tables.

You need a ticket for this but they are free (just limited), they get realsed every week for the next Friday so you can only book a week prior.

Obviously!! This can be done in various areas of the estate. The main tasting area under the big oak tree. 

This is such a beautiful area and a great way to get some shade under the branches if it's a hot sunny day. They often have lawn games dotted around to enjoy too, so don't worry about going with kids, they usually have some sort of entertainment around. 

They also have wine pairings available, like an choclate and a bread and oil tasting. 

If you are into open water swimming then keep an eye out as Boschendal (weather permitting) do friday night open water swimming in the York dam on the Boschendal estate. This is a great way to meet people, get some exercise and enjoy the beauty of Boschendal. This happens before the night market so why not enjoy some food after your brave swim and a few glasses of wine. 

There are some beautiful hiking trails and mountain biking routes of the estate. There is a small fee to get into the estate to use these, but they are gorgeous.

Obviously a must do, their wines are great and the tasting room is gorgeous. 

There are a variety of tasting options with 3 tastings as part of an express or their classic tasting at R160.

For those that love a good bold reds, try the Nebukadnesar, this is extra to the tasting packages but definitely worth a try. 

The platters are also incredible in the tasting room so check those out. 

They also offer cellar tours and olive oil tours and tastings.

This is tucked away and people don't seem to know about this but it's is definitely worth a visit. You can grab an audio device and have a full audio tour of the museum. It's pretty interactive and you can but your nose to the test with smell tests to see if you can work out what wine is which. 

This is on the right when you enter the building where the tasting is (before you cross the link to the tasting room). 

The gardens are beutiful and you can spend hours going around these. There's even waterfalls to discver and various different type of gardens. 

There is a fruit garden here too which allows you to pick and eat whatever you'd like, this is a real nice experience and great to do with children. 

Soetmelksvlei - Why not also visit the Soetmelksvlei, a working farm area with traditional pre 20th century techniques. With ox wagon rides and animal experiences this is another great activity. This costs extra and requires taking a shuittle from the main area for 25mins. 

There are so many different farm shops in beautiful old stables, theres a different shop for everything, theirs a bakery, a cheese monger, fresh fruit & vegetables, a butcher, a coffee shop. They are all so beutifully designed and layout as well as having absolutely delious produce. 

There are also farm animals just opposite the shops so you can enjoy watching the animals too. 

The stunning garden spa welcomes you with a beutiful pool. 

They offer a range of treatments including Hammams and various wraps.

There are various restaurant options at Babylonstoren. 

• Babel - stunning more fine dinning food, they offer breakfast, lunch and dinner - you need to book in advance for this. 

• Greenhouse - walk in to this lovely greenhouse that offers great breakfast & lunch options for while you explore the gardens. 

• Old bakery - family style food made for sharing. They also do different evenings like Italian and carnivore evenings. 

Small winery with a great view. The main wine tasting area is an outside patio, with a gorgeous view over the vine with the mountains in the background. 

They do oyster and brownie wine pairings which are super yummy.  

On the wine tram, doable with one stop on the tram. 

Beautiful Cape Dutch architecture surround a lawn area. They sometimes have live music and lawn games. There's also a market at this winery where you can buy artisan baked goods, locally produced crafts and more. Great for a snack or a souvenir. 

They do wine and fudge pairings and also gin tastings if you fancy a change from wine.

Get ready to be welcomed by the red ladies in this beautiful wine estate. A larger farm with a bakery and a restaurant as well as accommodation options. The tasting room is in a lovely comfortable lounge with a patio that takes in the mountain view. 

Check out the Lindt chocolate and wine tasting or the mochi and wine pairing (needs advanced booking). 

On the wine tram, doable for one stop - they are very good here with timings when you say you're planning to get the next tram.

I LOVE this place. It gives such a small family ran feel. Everytime we'd been we've been greeted by the owners, just makes you feel like part of the family. 

The platters are amazing and we were given lots of tips about how to pair the different cheeses for some incredible combinations. The wine is also stunning. 

They also have ostriches which they give you some fruit to feed them with. 

On the wine tram, but would recommend longer here/separate visit and enjoy a platter. 

Slightly off the beaten track, this wine estate is not to be missed. With a unique selling point of incredible  sushi, they do this as a wine pairing too. 

Known for their chardonney so if that's your wine then this is the place for you.  

Beautifully purches on a side of the valley, this place has great views.

They do some incredible pairings and they are known for their cap classiques (MCCs or bubbly). Would highly recommend the cap classique and macaroon pairings (I still dream about those macaroons). 

When we were there, youcould only do the tastings in the tasting room which has a very cool cellar feel but you miss out on the view. I'd either just grab a glass and enjoy the view or go on a day when you want to escape the heat.  

On the wine tram, doable for one stop on the tram. I got there and just instantly relaxed and wanted to enjoy a glass of wine with the view and not have to worry about time - so might be a good option for a separate visit.

Small courtyard for wine tastings offer a very intimate feel. 

Lovely staff, we ended up trying a lot more wines as we were pretty tipsy at this point and ended up buying a lot of wine. 

Their classic range has the most beautiful labels - I know you shouldn't judge a wine by the label but STUNNING.

Lovely winery to go whatever the weather, from cosy open fires inside to a beautiful patio to soak up the sun and the view. 

They offer great breakfasts here, you can either do this on the tram as your 1st stop or go separately.
