Bulgaria is becoming more and more popular as a ski destination. Offering skiing at a much more affordable price than many of the classic destinations. 

There are 3 ski resorts to chose from and these all have their pros and cons. 

• Borovets - closest to the airport. ~55km of piste. 

• Bansko - lots of thermal spas in the area, ~75km of piste. 

• Pamporpovo - best for beginners. ~30km of piste. 

We decided on Bansko as we had the option of thermal spas to relax and also lots of restaurants in the old town to explore. I went with my fiance who has NEVER skiied before in his life. I have skiied a few times but it had been over 10 years before this trip... so I was a bit nervous. In hindsight Bansko was the best options, the ski slopes for Simon were limited but he spent most of his time on the nursery slops anyway and it was so nice to have an alternative to skiing. 

Hire a car - we rented a car and found driving in Bulgaria super easy. They drive on the right so there was a few hiccups with that but the roads are very easy to navigate and well maintained. We paid around 20EURO a day with full comprehensive cover. 

Shuttle or private transfer - when booking accommodation in the ski areas there was options for adding on transfers, so a very easy option is going through your accommodation. 

Public transport - this is also an option when it comes to travelling to the ski resorts, especially Bansko and Borovets. If you are happy for a shared shuttle transfer though these are very similar in price.
