It's so good that it needed it's own page. 

This is a great way to see different wineries and have any stress taken out of your day. It is also a great way to meet other people and have a tipsy stumble around some incredibly beautiful wineries.

That being said there is a few things you need to know before booking, so let's go through these. 

There are 5 route on the wine tram - each a different colour and that colour dictates which wineries you go to and therefore which buses/trams you get on.

There is always a tram section and a bus section to each line.  

There are 3 routes in Franschhoek itself, these all depart from the Franschhoek Terminal - Red, Pink and Blue. These use the same section of tram so the 3 wineries on the tram are the same for each line, the bus section differs. 

There are 2 routes just outside of Franschhoek that go from the Groot Drakenstein terminal - Orange and Green (formally Navy). You can either go to the Franschhoek main terminal to collect your tickets and get a transfer to the Groot Drakenstein terminal or go straight to the Groot Drakenstein terminal where you can also get your tickets (closer to Stellenbosch & Cape Town). 

Check out the timetables available on the Franschhoek wine tram website (see below) to work out what time you want to start (tip: earlier the better). You won't be able to do all the stops so keep this in mind. 

Great now you have decided on a line and hopefully booked your tickets but here are just a few things to be aware of to make the most of your day. 

1. Buying wine - you can buy bottles of wine to take home with you at all of the wineries and you don't need to carry them around all day. This is great as when you jump back on the bus/tram they will take teh wine off you and give you a sticker. You then collect the wine at the end of the day from either the Franschhoek terminal or the Groot Drakenstein terminal. 

2. Don't worry about the last tram back to the terminal (unless you have handed in wine to collect later). You can easily uber back from most stops or if at Franschhoek cellar then it's just a short walk to the centre of Franschhoek. 

3. Think about what you're going to eat/if you're going to sit down for lunch. Unfortunately you need to plan this and book a table where you want to go for lunch. This is as a lot of the wineries don't have a restaurant so you don't want to be starving and there is no lunch for the next few stops. Or if you're happy with nibbling your way around then don't worry about lunch, we tend to just order a charcuitare board in a winery or 2.
